My preferred oil paint palette tends to bright oranges and deep blue with occasional punctuations of yellow and violet and exclamations of red and green. But there is also beauty in the more subtle hues of ROY G. BIV, the acronym that helps us memorize the sequence of hues making up a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Add a bit of linseed oil to any of these colors, or perhaps a dash of titanium white, and pastels pop into a fizzy drink that intoxicates the mind and delights the eye. Here’s to ROY G. BIV and the possibilities of the rainbow, where every color matters.
